![]() Mom’s passing has left a big hole in the fabric of our family. A luncheon in Mom’s memory will follow at the Legion (10103 105 Ave, Fort St John) from 2 - 5pm. We invite friends and family of Irene to join us at the Woodlawn Cemetery columbarium on July 19, 2022, at 12:30pm for interment. This is a unique chance to purchase the farm as a whole, not previously known to be on the market as such or individual lots. Gord Farm provides a fantastic opportunity to appreciate and utilise the good fertile land that is evident on the site. She was pre-deceased by her sister Norma, and parents Joseph and Helen Maier. Gord farmhouse (also known as Nelson Gord), outbuildings and land extends to approaching 10 acres. Irene is survived by daughters Corinne Lamb (Kevin) and Alison Evin (Gord), granddaughter Amanda Lamb, and sisters May and Mary. Their sleepovers were their version of “girl’s night out”. In 1980 Irene moved to Penticton, where she lived until she went to McKinney Place care home in Oliver in 2020. Travels with Gord and Cathie Monday, JFort Nelson BC to Jasper AB, 2 days trip Triple G Hideaway camp restaurant, Fort Nelson BC The drive from Fort Nelson BC to near Grand Prairie AB wasnt too inspiring for picture taking, rather a bland drive compared to some weve had recently. They raised two daughters, Corinne and Alison, on the farm near Baldonnel. John after the war to marry Milton Bessey. Irene was born in Davidson, Sask., and moved to Fort St. Mom was also an active member of the United Church. She became heavily involved with 4H during the years that Alison was part of the club. She sewed a lot of our clothes and made square dancing dresses for Alison. Mom knit sweaters, hats, mitts, and scarves. Mom did all this, plus baking bread, and cooking fabulous meals, in a tiny farm house with no running water and no electricity until the new house was built in 1967. At the same time she helped Dad in the fields when needed. She milked cows and kept a large garden, from which she produced enough fruits, vegetables, jams and jellies to last the whole winter. ![]() She raised chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys. Mom was a farm girl and worked hard all of her life. We are saddened to announce that we lost our beloved mother Irene Bessey (nee Maier) on January 7th, 2021.
